Houdini Chopper Destruction
Hello Wizards,
The project files contains the full shot! I think everyone will learn a thing or 2 from this.
here is what you'll learn:
1- how to prepare a very bad asset originally made for games.
2- Fracture and sim and RBD object (the chopper), including glue and soft constraints, alongside Twist for the rotors and wheels.
3- Dynamically bend the ground according to the impact, and also dymically source debris (rocks) from the impact.
4- How to create multiple sources with different velocities for smoke, and interact with the chopper.
5- build a heightfield on top of a megascan structure.
6- export the heightfield planes to be used in Mixer (or any texturing software).
7- if you have Arnold, you'll get the rendering part too (using AOVs for each object in the scene).
8- and finally just a very simple compositing in nuke to change the smoke color.
9- you'll get .hiplc, .nknc, and Mixer files.
Please Note:
- it's required to have basic houdini knowledge! (including basic RBD knowledge).
- I used the old RBD workflow, the only node from the new sop tools is RBD connected faces.
- I used H19.5.493 + Arnold 7.1.4.2 but I think it will work on H17 and above.
- ACES color space is used, you need to have it on houdini and nuke.
- the twisting of wheels and rotors are not easy topics, so it's hard to explain but I left some notes regarding some steps for the whole scene.
- I would separate the rotors and wheels into a separate sim! since this is all one RBD sim it's really hard to control everything.
Hope you like it, and stay strong in these hard times in this industry.
